Fresh Stacks

After a whirlwind week of basketball practices, games, karate, and of course schoolwork, my wild thing is off at his very first overnight church retreat, which gave me some uninterrupted sewing time this morning.  I put together my newest stacked squares quilt top, and I am loving the fresh color palette.  By the way, the original Moda Bake Shop pattern uses a layer cake and jelly rolls, but I have adjusted the measurements to use yardage rather than precuts, and if you're interested, you can find it HERE.


After I finished my last quilt, I wasn't really feeling any inspiration for another project.  Don't get me wrong, I definitely wanted to sew, I just didn't know what I wanted to do.  Even with the marvel of pinterest and the blogging universe, nothing was grabbing me as something I just had to try for myself.  I found myself scrolling through past quilts and just trying to decide on one that I might like to make again.  I don't repeat designs very often, but I'm glad I settled on this one.  I really do love the way the colors play together, and the 3D illusion of the pattern is really cool.

I've learned that just sitting and mulling things over doesn't really work for me.  I'm much more of a snap decision girl, and apparently pushing through with a repeat design was exactly the inspiration kick I needed because I have also sketched and planned out my next quilt.  Got to love it when creativity strikes!

    Love the design and the colors. Since it is only in the mid twenties here in Minnesota it is great to see some spring colors. I will have to go to Moda Bakeshop and get your pattern. I am like you - always working on figuring out the next project. I am washing fabrics for one idea even though I have three quilts that are various stages of being finished. Micki@2dogsstudio.us

    I love the quilt and the title. The moment I saw them, I thought of hay stacks in shades of green and yellow with some browns tossed in for fun and contrast. Thanks for the inspiration. And here's hoping that your wild thing enjoyed his retreat--the first one can be a little scary.

    Kelly - I've discovered that same thing about me since I've been quilting - I'm very much a Spur-of-the-Moment type of person. Something jumps at me and I do it. Things I 'plan' to do, usually take a l-o-n-g time getting done. This is a great pattern for those fabrics, and I like that you've done the figuring for us to change the Bake Shop recipe into a yardage-friendly pattern - thanks!

    Love it!! Looks like one I'm working on at the moment but think it has 3 rounds as opposed to yours which looks like 2. So pretty!

    This is a neat pattern, I love the 3D effect thing. I've done it with circles, but I like the squares, too! Great color palette.
