After a whirlwind week of basketball practices, games, karate, and of course schoolwork, my wild thing is off at his very first overnight church retreat, which gave me some uninterrupted sewing time this morning. I put together my newest stacked squares quilt top, and I am loving the fresh color palette. By the way, the original Moda Bake Shop pattern uses a layer cake and jelly rolls, but I have adjusted the measurements to use yardage rather than precuts, and if you're interested, you can find it HERE.
After I finished my last quilt, I wasn't really feeling any inspiration for another project. Don't get me wrong, I definitely wanted to sew, I just didn't know what I wanted to do. Even with the marvel of pinterest and the blogging universe, nothing was grabbing me as something I just had to try for myself. I found myself scrolling through past quilts and just trying to decide on one that I might like to make again. I don't repeat designs very often, but I'm glad I settled on this one. I really do love the way the colors play together, and the 3D illusion of the pattern is really cool.
I've learned that just sitting and mulling things over doesn't really work for me. I'm much more of a snap decision girl, and apparently pushing through with a repeat design was exactly the inspiration kick I needed because I have also sketched and planned out my next quilt. Got to love it when creativity strikes!
This quilt came out great. I love the colors and I agree. The 3D effect is really cool
ReplyDeleteThat quilt was worth doing twice! It's beautiful, Kelly. I love the way the squares jump out at you!

Love this quilt. I might have to make one.
ReplyDeleteI really like the colors in this quilt. This pattern is on my to do list, hopefully sometime this year.
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt and color combination. Great job!!
ReplyDeleteLove the design and the colors. Since it is only in the mid twenties here in Minnesota it is great to see some spring colors. I will have to go to Moda Bakeshop and get your pattern. I am like you - always working on figuring out the next project. I am washing fabrics for one idea even though I have three quilts that are various stages of being finished. Micki@2dogsstudio.us
ReplyDeleteI love the colour palette - you will be all set for Spring when it arrives!
ReplyDeleteThat's really cute! I like how it looks like it's layered! :)

ReplyDeleteLovely quilt Kelly. Just finished my "Dazzling Diamonds" which I made using Kaffe Fassett fabric an absolute rip off from your "Jewelled" quilt. Love it thank you.
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt... love that you got some kid free time too :) That is always nice after a busy week of running! Glad you found inspiration for your next quilt too. Have a blessed weekend! Kathi
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!!! This is going on my to do list.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!!! This is going on my to do list.
ReplyDeleteIt's absolutely stunning! I'll be adding this to my own list to do someday.
ReplyDeleteI love the quilt and the title. The moment I saw them, I thought of hay stacks in shades of green and yellow with some browns tossed in for fun and contrast. Thanks for the inspiration. And here's hoping that your wild thing enjoyed his retreat--the first one can be a little scary.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colour combination. It works very well in your gorgeous design ; )
ReplyDeleteKelly - I've discovered that same thing about me since I've been quilting - I'm very much a Spur-of-the-Moment type of person. Something jumps at me and I do it. Things I 'plan' to do, usually take a l-o-n-g time getting done. This is a great pattern for those fabrics, and I like that you've done the figuring for us to change the Bake Shop recipe into a yardage-friendly pattern - thanks!
ReplyDeleteFabulous quilt and design.Love your fabric combo!.
ReplyDeleteLove your interpretation of this pattern.
ReplyDeleteLove it!! Looks like one I'm working on at the moment but think it has 3 rounds as opposed to yours which looks like 2. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt in these colors!
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is lovely: the colors are just perfect!
ReplyDeleteTurned out great Kelly. Wish I was more of a snap decision person. I spend way too much time deciding things.
ReplyDeleteThis top came out beautifully. And I'm glad you've got your quilting mojo back. I hate when it goes on hiatus.
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty! I really like this pattern.
ReplyDeleteThat happens to me sometimes too! Love this pattern, great colors in your finish
ReplyDeleteThis is a neat pattern, I love the 3D effect thing. I've done it with circles, but I like the squares, too! Great color palette.
ReplyDeleteLove the colors and variety of fabric patterns!
ReplyDeleteA gorgeous way of using colors, pattern and shapes! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove the 3-D look and the colors. Beautifully done.
ReplyDeleteWOW!! This is such a cool quilt!
ReplyDeleteFabulous color choices! The 3D effect astounds me here (as it does on your pink quilt too!). I love this quilt and I've pinned it to my "Quilty Goodness" board on Pinterest (with proper credit, of course!). Feel free to follow me if you'd like: http://pinterest.com/lipglass/quilty-goodness/
