Sparkle Pop!

Over the weekend, it finally warmed up, and the sun peeked out just enough for me to get some photos of my latest quilt finish, and now that it's done, I love it even more.  I'm calling this quilt Sparkle Pop!

I used the past two years' Pantone Colors of the Year, Ultra Violet (2017) and Greenery (2016) as a starting point for this quilt, and the addition of royal blue and ice blue gives it some great dimension.  As of now, I am still undecided on whether I'm planning to write this pattern or not.  The block is 18" which is always fun, but the spade block is a little bit fussy, and I'm just not sure it would make a good pattern.

I used up all of my leftovers on the back, and then added some Kona Chartreuse to widen it out.  I quilted with a nice, wide stipple just to get it done, and used Kona Royal on the binding.

All of the ice and snow days happened as I worked on this quilt, and that meant that my family was at home.  I loved having them home, but that meant more family time, and less quilting time.  As my wild thing gets older, I am keenly aware of how short these days really are, and I'm okay with that trade.

  2. Love this one so much! I do hope you write a pattern, but I can see how the spade blocks would be tricky. I'd love to make this one! I may play around and see about making that block (for my own use only, obviously...) - hope you don't mind!

  3. 'Love it. Those rich colors, and that backing is just as pretty as the front. That would be a great pattern to have.

  7. Gorgeous quilt, and I also vote for a pattern. It’s the fussy, fiddly blocks that people really need patterns for. How old are your wild things? Mine are 14 and 17. They don’t want me to snuggle with them anymore. :-(

  9. Looks great. I wondered about the spade block. It looks fiddly. But it's beautiful.

  11. this turned out lovely. Yup, spend those times with family while you have them. It seems like too soon they are off and doing there own thing.

  13. Another wonderful design Kelly. I really like the color scheme and the giant blocks. Just curious if you ever find it hard to use up the scraps for the backing? I always want to hoard them for another quilt. I'm working on freeing myself from that tendency.

  14. This is one of your prettiest quilts yet. Of course I say that about almost each one you finish. But truly, the colors, the blocks and everything about it appeals to me. I am keeping this as a reminder of what I might want to make one day when my UFOs are under control.

  15. It's beautiful! You could replace the fussy block with a simpler block that is similar. I encourage you to write the pattern.
