Welcome to Needle and Thread Thursday, y'all! If you've been following along, you'll remember that after finishing my Rainbow Galaxy quilt top, I still had several chunks of improv left over. I briefly considered turning them into a second quilt, but almost immediately abandoned that idea in favor of using them on the back. I was originally going to mix in my multicolored scraps, but then those were SO plentiful that they became the Scrap Confetti quilt I shared last week. All of that still left me with those leftover single-color improv chunks with no real plan for how to use them. I came up with a few options and ultimately settled on this-

Backing Complete and NTT
I had lots of low volume prints in my stash, and since there is so much low volume improv in the top, I thought it would echo the front quite nicely. I didn't have to purchase a single bit of fabric to put this backing together, which makes me super happy! I just need to get this one basted, and then I can start on the quilting (and I already have an awesome plan for that!).
If you missed last week's party, it was jam-packed with inspiration! This sampler beauty is by Rita at Quiltpiecer-
Wow! Y'all really know how to bring the quilty eye-candy! I hope you're ready to party!
1. You can link finished projects or WIP's , but just keep it about quilting and sewing!
2. Link to your specific post (not to your home page!) to make it easier for others.
3. Please remember to spread the word and post my button or a text link within your
post.
4. Spread the comment love far and wide!
5. Following me is not a requirement to link, but is so very appreciated!
*If you're new to the party, here's a helpful tip for linking up- select "Auto Crop" when selecting your thumbnail photo. For some reason, trying to crop your own image results in the dreaded "white question mark box," and we definitely want to see your awesome work! :)

The backing looks fantastic and I am excited to see how your quilting plan comes together!
ReplyDeleteIt's really admirable that you took the time to piece a back. Personally, I think it's the best way to make a quilt that really utilizes one's stash... even though I know it take almost as much time to put together as piecing the quilt top. But the effort is SO worthwhile! Your backing is beautiful, and I'm happy for you to already know how you'll quilt it. That's more than half of the quilting "battle!"
ReplyDeleteYour backing looks as good as a quilt top -- this one is going to be a double-sided quilt rather than one with a "back" and a "front!" And aren't the scraps just like bunnies -- every time you turn around there are more and more and MORE of them! ;-). Thanks for featuring my client's Woven Radiance quilt from last week!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI like the Improv quilt...it's beautiful. And thanks for sharing
all those blog links...now I've got tons of ideas for making
a quilt...have a great day!
Your backing is as pretty as can be. Love the use of the scraps. Thank you for hosting the link party. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteYour backing looks great and I agree that your quilt is going to be double-sided. And thank you for the feature! Great inspiration from so many awesome quilts.
