Before we party, check out the highlights from last week. Melva Loves Scraps shared progress on this fantastic camping journal quilt-
Janine Marie at Quilts from the Little House dressed up this big print with some awesome quilting in this whole cloth quilt (check out her post to see the great pattern and texture on the back)-
Okay friends. It's time to link up the latest happenings from your studio! I hope you've been getting lots of fun quilty time in the new year. Let's see it!
1. You can link finished projects or WIP's , but just keep it about quilting and sewing!
2. Link to your specific post (not to your home page!) to make it easier for others.
3. Please remember to spread the word and post my button or a text link within your
post.
4. Spread the comment love far and wide!
5. Following me is not a requirement to link, but is so very appreciated!
*If you're new to the party, here's a helpful tip for linking up- select "Auto Crop" when selecting your thumbnail photo. For some reason, trying to crop your own image results in the dreaded "white question mark box," and we definitely want to see your awesome work! :)
I used to chain piece like that until I made too many of one unit and not enough of another and had to do some unstitching. And it got to be quite a mess of tangled threads to snip before pressing and organizing the units. So, I started snipping the threads after every other or group pf 2 units and making piles. Then I took each pile and pressed them. The ironing mat gets pretty hot when I do so many at a time. When I stopped being in such a hurry and slowed down, I progressed more quickly.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've made curtains for at least 35 years.
I only do the simplest of curtains (if there is such a thing) and each time it reminds me why I like to quilt. That chain piecing is pretty impressive!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing that huge pile of chain piecing! It may take a while or become monotonous, but if it leads to a quick finish...I'm all for it!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE these colors. Can't wait to see what the pile becomes.
ReplyDeleteOh, Kelly -- I feel your pain with the drapery panels! That WAS what I did for a living for awhile, sewing window treatments. My husband built me a huge table in my bonus room/sewing room that fit a full 54" width of fabric and was long enough for a cut length of a drapery panel, including hem and header allowances. Then as I segued into doing more of the decorating and design and less of the actual sewing, I'd still occasionally sew a complicated swag treatment or pillows if I had time, but I'd send the drapery panels to a wholesale workroom because dealing with those huge pieces of fabric in my home studio was just way more hassle than what the commercial workroom charged, and they came out beautiful every time. I don't remember the last time I sewed a drapery panel, and I don't intend to sew any in the near (or distant) future, either. Glad you're back to quilting and sewing is FUN again!
ReplyDelete:-)
I put curtains up there with hemming pants. No Thanks!! LOL Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteI love your color scheme and prints for your new project! And yeah, sewing anything but quilts can be a drag. Quiltmaking does not equal sewing. But I bet your friend loved her new made-by-you curtains. Thanks for the shoutout for my little wholecloth quilt. I do wish I had bought a whole bunch of that fabric. It takes me right back to the flower child 70's.
ReplyDeleteOh, I know what you mean about making curtains... or hemming pants, or any other fixes - people think that because you own a sewing machine (or two or three) that you know how to do EVERYthing. Well, maybe you do - as in your case - but making curtains isn't the "desire of your heart." Bless you for helping a friend. Thanks for sharing my "Jazzed" quilt. I'm still very jazzed about making patterned improv quilts like this that I've registered for another Maria Shell workshop called "Asymmetry-Symmetry." More improv piecing solid colors, and I can't wait to get started! 2020 was really my year for delving into new things, virtually, that I couldn't have possibility learned in another format. Not everything last year was "bad."
