I have friends with daughters who just looooove pink and purple, and from my time as a teacher, I know that lots and lots of girls seek out this combo. So, in the name of stash busting, I decided to go ahead and use several of these languishing fabrics to create one sugary-sweet quilt.
I've been practicing a brand new free motion motif that will match the sweetness of the colors, and I'm excited about putting it on the quilt for real!
I have to say that it is adorable :) and I am not a pink kind of girl too

ReplyDeleteKelly, would you be willing to share the sizes of the rectangles you used? I like this design a lot. I am a pink and purple lover but I didn't know it until I started quilting. I never thought of myself as a girlie girl, but found that I gravitate towards those colors when selecting fabric.

ReplyDeleteDefinitely perfect color combo for many girls, it's a very sweet quilt. Drama Teen could never abide pink (she looks so pretty in it, but won't wear it period). In fact her entire group of friends are pretty anti pink, though they still like purple.

ReplyDeleteVery pretty quilt, and kudos to you for pushing yourself to use a not-favored color scheme. Your palette of mixed pinks & purples is lovely, and even with pastels you have a nice range of values. I totally agree with you about preferring strong, rich, deep colors.

I've tried free motion quilting and it is not my thing. If I quilt something myself, I stitch-in-the-ditch. Of course, I've only ALMOST finished one quilt that now needs binding. But you understand, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteI, too, love bright, bold, and vivid colors. I've been buying Kaffe Fassett fabrics via the Internet because our local quilt shop doesn't carry that line of fabrics. I've got a partial quilt top done so far and am now adding borders.
Being that I love bright and bold colors, it's somewhat of a mystery that I'm currently doing a "block of the month" project through my local quilt shop. It is a vintage style - and the vintage is from the fabrics. I'll post that at another time. I'm behind one month on the piecing but I plan to work on it during December. We finish the quilt blocks in April. I may add borders to make it a larger quilt to give to one of my adult sons. He has a king-size bed and the quilt isn't that large by any stretch of the imagination.

ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty combination of fabrics and colors, Kelly! I'll look forward to seeing your quilt motif. A bonus on this one is unless my eyes deceive me there are no two block exactly alike. That would make this a great "game" quilt for a certain age range: find all the blocks that use purple zig zag, find the blocks with the big pink dots in the center cross, etc. I have some fun fabrics and tonals that would provide good contrast and go-with in this layout and be just right for kid-quilt donations. ReplyDeleteOh so pretty! I was opposed to pink as a girl, just to annoy my mother, but realized in my 30's that it's the color that looks best on me. As for purple, not a big fan - just another color in the crayon box!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a pink lover unless it's hot pink either and purples if they are rich and vibrant, but this is one great looking combination using all the values of both colors. I would gladly take a nap under this quilt. Looking forward to seeing what your quilting motif will be.
