Meadow View

This quilt, paired with our day of beautiful 70 degree weather just makes me happy.  Never mind the fact that tomorrow night, the temperature will plummet to 20 degrees.  Just for today, it felt like spring!

While I worked on this quilt, the happy mix of blues and greens reminded me of a grassy meadow against a nearly cloudless blue sky.  I thought the name Meadow View fit this quilt quite nicely.  Wouldn't you just love to take this quilt on a picnic here?-

One thing I'm pretty proud of on this quilt is the size of the label.  I've really been working on making my labels smaller so they are less obtrusive on the back of the quilt, but writing on fabric is tough to do neatly sometimes!  This label, with the borders is 2x3 inches, which means that the letters themselves are only about 1/4 inch, although the capital letters are a little bigger.

For the backing, what can I say besides the fact that Denyse never lets me down.  I pieced all of the scraps into a wide strips and went to JoAnn's DS Quilts section with the intention of picking out one main backing fabric.  Alas- that was not to be.  I couldn't decide between the three, so my solution was to just do some bold stripes with all three.  Who says less is more?  Okay, I admit that sometimes it is, but in this case, I love the result!

I had really hoped that some of the mallards that live in our neighborhood pond would stick around and look cute with their green heads in my photos to match my quilt.  There are always two or three families of ducks swimming or waddling around, and I suspect that we'll get to see some ducklings pretty soon, which is always fun.  Unfortunately though, as soon as we got near and they realized that we didn't have any bread, they made a hasty retreat.

Anyhoo, y'all know me well enough to know by now that I'm an "all or nothing" kind of girl.  It helps me be very efficient when I need to be, but sometimes it is to the exclusion of other things (read- sometimes I have my attention on quilting when I should focus on something a little more responsible).  All of this is to say that I have a big exam next weekend to add an additional certification to my teaching license, and I am going to need to take a little break from quilting to get some studying done.  Don't worry- I'll still post NTT, and I'll do my best to answer emails and comments, but I am going to have to force myself to stay away from my sewing machine, and to a certain extent, my computer.  So, I'll catch up with y'all when it's all done!
