This quilt, paired with our day of beautiful 70 degree weather just makes me happy. Never mind the fact that tomorrow night, the temperature will plummet to 20 degrees. Just for today, it felt like spring!
While I worked on this quilt, the happy mix of blues and greens reminded me of a grassy meadow against a nearly cloudless blue sky. I thought the name Meadow View fit this quilt quite nicely. Wouldn't you just love to take this quilt on a picnic here?-

One thing I'm pretty proud of on this quilt is the size of the label. I've really been working on making my labels smaller so they are less obtrusive on the back of the quilt, but writing on fabric is tough to do neatly sometimes! This label, with the borders is 2x3 inches, which means that the letters themselves are only about 1/4 inch, although the capital letters are a little bigger.
For the backing, what can I say besides the fact that Denyse never lets me down. I pieced all of the scraps into a wide strips and went to JoAnn's DS Quilts section with the intention of picking out one main backing fabric. Alas- that was not to be. I couldn't decide between the three, so my solution was to just do some bold stripes with all three. Who says less is more? Okay, I admit that sometimes it is, but in this case, I love the result!
I had really hoped that some of the mallards that live in our neighborhood pond would stick around and look cute with their green heads in my photos to match my quilt. There are always two or three families of ducks swimming or waddling around, and I suspect that we'll get to see some ducklings pretty soon, which is always fun. Unfortunately though, as soon as we got near and they realized that we didn't have any bread, they made a hasty retreat.
Anyhoo, y'all know me well enough to know by now that I'm an "all or nothing" kind of girl. It helps me be very efficient when I need to be, but sometimes it is to the exclusion of other things (read- sometimes I have my attention on quilting when I should focus on something a little more responsible). All of this is to say that I have a big exam next weekend to add an additional certification to my teaching license, and I am going to need to take a little break from quilting to get some studying done. Don't worry- I'll still post NTT, and I'll do my best to answer emails and comments, but I am going to have to force myself to stay away from my sewing machine, and to a certain extent, my computer. So, I'll catch up with y'all when it's all done!
I love this! Good work! I really like how you did your label. I need to be better at putting labels on my quilts as well.

ReplyDeleteDear Kelly, this quilt is beautiful. The greens are sometimes difficult to blend but you have proven this theory incorrect. Best of luck on your exams. I am sure you will do very well. Your attention to detail appears to be an all encompassing trait!

ReplyDeleteDid you get most of these fabrics from JoAnns? Or just stash? I would like to make a blue/green quilt for my grandson. This looks like one I could do. Pattern for it? Thanks. Its beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAwfully pretty - love it! Definitely you need to focus on your studies, and you can dream about that meadow while you snuggle beneath your new quilt!
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly, I LOVE your style of quilts. If I lived anywhere near you, I'd be hanging over your shoulder watching you pick fabric and sew it together. But don't worry, I am in SW Iowa. Oh, and I am not a crazy stalker! lol. I am still waiting for the time to do Bicycle Trails.

ReplyDeleteA perfect name for a beautiful quilt. Love the colours! I have changed the way I do my labels after reading your tute, but machine stitch the letters as I have not found a pen that I would trust to survive the washing! Which pen do you recommend? Dee

Beautiful quilt. Here is in the Tulsa area schools are closed tomorrow. My church was open this morning even though I didn't venture out. We have been blessed with a mild winter and this arctic blast in to last for days. When I checked the thermometer on my back patio, it wasn't even 10 degrees this afternoon. So, this quilt is a breath of spring for me. Many thanks and the label is great. I often make my labels large. I made baby quilts for my great niece and nephew. I added to the quilt the meaning to their names. I put embroidered daises around her label to remind her of her paternal grandmother who loves daises and her name is also one of the girl's names. I put red and blue running stitches around the boy's label and that was to signify that both his paternal grandfathers served in WWII. Part of his name is for one of those grandfathers. My nephew really appreciated the label. So, I think it also depends on the audience. I printed them on my computer and then hand traced them over a light box. I like your label, too.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, inspiring quilt. Good luck with the exam.
ReplyDeleteFabulous finish.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with exam.
Beautiful! Totally get you on the focusing on quilting and not so much on more responsible things. Can't someone pay me a good salary to just play with fabric all day? No? Too bad! Good luck with the exam. I'll look forward to seeing what you're up to after it's all done.
ReplyDeleteI would love to have this beautiful quilt wrapped around me right now . . . it's 8 degrees here in the western New York State area!
ReplyDeleteLove this quilt! And the back? Awesome!
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your exam!!
Gorgeous backing! Denyse never disappoints :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a great quilt. So glad I got to see it in person. Good luck on your exam!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty quilt. It DOES look like Spring.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! Love blue & green together.
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt. I am trying to decide whether this quilt has a "calm, quiet" mood, or lots of energy... I think it has both! The green-blue combination makes it peaceful, but the variety of patterns and scale makes it very lively. Win-win. And the back is great too. Win-win-win!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt Kelly and I know by now your exam is over so.....enjoy some more quilting!!
ReplyDeleteAnother awesome quilt Kelly! Good luck with your exams--I am sure you will do well!
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking up to Fabric Frenzy Friday!

P.S. Good luck with your studying and exam & don't worry about replying to my comments!
I love this quilt! Your work is always happy :) I have a bluish/greenish stack I have pulled out several times and put back. I'm not very confident in my color choices just yet, thanks for the reminder to pull them back out and just go for it! The worst that can happen is a so-so quilt that will still be loved :)
ReplyDeleteI enjoy reading your stories and seeing your beautiful quilts! You inspire me!
