A Disclaimer
There's something you should know. I'm sure I don't always quilt the "right" way. In fact, I've never taken a quilting class in my life. Over the years, I have taught myself to quilt (with some frantic, long distance calls to my grandmother), and have figured out what works best for me. After years of straight-line quilting only, I have recently discovered the quilt blogging world, and plucked up the courage to dive into free-motion quilting. I'm fairly certain that a professional quilter would be appalled at some of my methods, but oh well. There's my disclaimer, now- enjoy! :)

Like yourself I've never taken a lesson in quilting. Nor do i have any family who quilt. Some of the "rules" seem to have no reason as to why. I think it's good to sometimes work out the best way for ourselves.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness someone else quilts with reckless abandon, and flies in the face of the "quilt police." I just have to keep thinking that quilting is an art that sprang from necessity, and I'm sure there wasn't a local quilt shop that offered classes for them! :)
DeleteGood for you Kelly! I've been quilting on and off for years and have never taken a class, but I have read many books. Some of the things I "do" may not be the "right" way but they work for me.
ReplyDeletewell, your quilts are beautiful! I'm just thankful for lots of online resources today! I made my first quilt in 1999, and if there were bloggers then, I certainly didn't know about them! :)
DeleteI love reading your first post and being reminded that we started blogging around the same time. Look at the difference a year makes! I always enjoy your blog and style and hope you're enjoying your new sewing room! V
