An Ice/Snowpocalypse, and NTT

Hey there friends!  According to the weather forecasts, if you're almost anywhere in the southern/central US, you're gearing up for a major winter storm, with some pretty shocking ice/snow forecasts.  I'm hoping that as the storm gets closer, these numbers are a little more reasonable, but at one point here in the Memphis area, we were forecasted to get 18-24" of snow!  That is completely unheard of here.  Currently, our forecast sits at 5-8" of snow, which is better, but not really.  Because with this storm, less snow means more ice (up to a half inch for us), which is even worse.

So, I've been planning and shopping for meals that can easily be cooked on a grill if we lose power (visiting three different grocery stores, because they are already a zoo), we also convinced our son to come stay here for the duration, and even purchased some firewood for our fireplace that has never had a fire in it in the six years we've lived here.  This amount of snow and ice is absolutely crippling for a southern city, and since the temps are projected to stay below or just above freezing into next week, we have to be prepared to be stuck at home for several days, which is probably through next Thursday.  It's been a lot.

Nevertheless, I have made some good progress on my latest quilt this week, and finished all of the quilting.  Here's a little peek!

With all of this snow and ice on the way, I'm sure I'll have no trouble getting the binding put on before next week.  But on that note, just keep in mind that if I lose power, I may not be able to post.

Before we get to our party, check out the highlights from last week.  This lovely quilt is from Sew Preeti Quilts-

All three of these awesome quilts were linked up by Nancy at Grace and Peace Quilting-

Andree' at Quilting and Learning showed off the center block of a fun new project, and I can't wait to see more!

This pretty quilt is from Something Rosemade-

And finally, I'm in love with this beauty from Yvonne at Quilting Jetgirl.  Y'all know I love the green!

Okay, friends!  Let's get our party on!

1You can link finished projects or WIP's , but just keep it about quilting and sewing!
2. Link to your specific post (not to your home page!) to make it easier for others.
3. Please remember to spread the word and post my button or a text link within your
    post.
4. Spread the comment love far and wide!
5. Following me is not a requirement to link, but is so very appreciated!

*If you're new to the party, here's a helpful tip for linking up- select "Auto Crop"  when selecting your thumbnail photo.  For some reason, trying to crop your own image results in the dreaded "white question mark box," and we definitely want to see your awesome work!  :)

  2. I have family in Cookeville and have been watching the wild fluctuations in predictions. I sure hope that there is minimal ice and power outage in your area, and I think that preparing the way you describe is super smart. You're making great progress on your quilt! Thanks so much for sharing my finish, and I hope (if you have power and can post) we get to see a finish from you next week!

  3. I'm in the south as well! Ice storms are the worst! We have a gas stove and a generator after having dealt with so many weeks without power, which really helps. But we are apt to be stranded given next weeks predicted temps.

  4. Yes, I've heard about the coming storm, and that it may affect temps here in Central Florida. No snow here though, I hope! Knowing you haven't used your fireplace... please let me say, in the kindest way, to be cautious about using it. If you haven't had the chimney cleaned in six year, you could have a fire due to built-up creosote. Also, if the temps get too low, using your fireplace will allow more cold air in the house. Great idea to stock up on groceries, and plan to use a grill if you lose power. Can you tell I lived for many years in Iowa? :-) Wishing you the best.

    1. I came to make a similar kindly comment regarding unused fireplaces in a storm. It's a major cause of winter tragedies. Everyone be warm and quilt on!

  5. My daughter lives in Spring Hill TN and sent us photos of empty shelves at Costco last night. Nine driving hours north of her here in Kingsville ON, we are looking at bitterly cold temps that we don't usually see, though they're common on the prairies, such as in Alberta where we lived for many years. It's quite the system. Mother Nature is very angry with us.

  6. Hi Kelly, good luck surviving the snow and ice! It is the perfect time for slow stitching (or a good book!) Thanks for featuring my centre blocks. I'm off to make my round 1 blocks for the SAHRR! Take care.
