Happy Needle and Thread Thursday, my friends! Someone, and I'm not naming names, is still keeping me from my sewing machine. He is almost 40 pounds and not quite five months old (this pic is from a couple of weeks ago), and his shenanigans are still keeping me on my toes. Lately, he loves patrolling every toilet in the house (several times a day), just to see if someone may have forgotten to put the lid down, in which case he will help himself to a refreshing drink, stealing socks from my laundry pile and running from me when I try to retrieve them, and trying to lick the ice in the freezer every single time the door is opened. Oh, and last week, he discovered that toilet paper has an end that can be pulled...so that's been fun. It's a good thing he's so cute, and he's really sweet and snuggly when he's not wreaking havoc on my day, lol!
Even though I haven't been sewing, I have found that I can sneak in some design time on my computer. It's just a few minutes here and there, but it's been awhile since I just played around with design, and it's been fun to do something creative.
Without further ado, let's check out some of my favorites from last week's party. Sandra at mmmquilts shared this one. Y'all know I can't resist a scrappy quilt!

Aha, Kelly, the pic of your puppy just cracks me up. He is so adorable but don't they look so lanky as puppies when they are in the process of becoming very large dogs. I just love it!
ReplyDeleteAnd I thought our Yorkshire Terrier Zoey was full of mischief. She can still at 4 years old be full of silliness. We have lizards in our backyard, which we are very happy to have as they eat the garden bugs. However Zoey is on constant guard for them and will bark and growl at the patio doors to get out and do something about them for hours. I am pretty sure they actually run up and down the walls or cement patio on propose just to tease her. Between that and her intent on killing her squecky squirrel toys that leaves their fuzzy coats all over the house that have to be vacuumed up daily she keeps us going all the time. How your pup grows out of it a little bit, but lets face it how much fun they are and they do keep life interesting for sure.

Ah, Steal Mommy's Socks and Run is definitely a game! How can you resist that adorable face?! So Kelly, it is hard to tell from reading blog posts whether someone is exhausted by a puppy who has way more energy than they do, or whether the puppy owner needs training help. Some of the frustrating but cute puppy antics can grow into more serious problems as the little puppy transforms into a big, powerful dog. One thing I was glad our trainer taught me with our dogs was the "trade" command. When he had something in his mouth that he didn't want to give up, I got a high value treat in my hand, held it near his face and said "TRADE." And then you wait while he thinks about it, because he has to open his mouth and lose whatever he has clamped in there in order to get the treat. But when he does open his mouth and out falls the socks or the battery to the remote control or someone's car registration, you say "GOOD TRADE or GOOD BOY" and give him the treat. To reinforce this one, sometimes you ask him to trade, give him the treat when he opens his mouth with whatever inside, and let him have it back if it's not dangerous or important. Like, go ahead and eat the dirty tissue this time you furry little weirdo! So he knows that he won't always lose what's in his mouth if he trades it for a treat, but Mom gets to see it and decide. I wish I'd done more training with our dog when he was little, TBH, especially in settings that would have socialized him more with people outside the family and with other dogs, so please don't take this like I'm some kind of dog expert. Sam is almost 6 now and he is a lot less needy than he was as a puppy, but he is still a party animal who wants to go outside and play catch the frisbee about every three hours from sun up to sun down. And he still grabs my socks every chance he gets!
ReplyDeleteHonestly no shade intended. Did you know he would be a forty pound puppy?
ReplyDeleteoh yes! He is a Boxer, and I've had Boxers all my life. They can get big, and his parents were 85 lbs and 72 lbs. :)
DeleteBeautiful dog.
ReplyDeleteYour dog is a handsome guy. Are you thinking of going to training classes with him? Maybe manage his enthusiasm? Or perhaps he's still too young?
