Farewell Amy and NTT

Happy Needle and Thread Thursday, y'all!  Earlier this year, the quilting community learned that Amy Butler would no longer be designing fabric, and my just heart sank at the news.  If you've been a long time reader, you know that I love the bright, saturated colors and big, opulent prints in her fabrics and have made many quilts using them.  I've been quilting for close to 20 years, but the first quilt I made that I consider to be modern used the Soul Blossoms collection (about six months before I started my blog).  If you know another quilter that loves Amy's fabrics as much as I do, you should send her my way because I'm certain we should be friends.

So, when Free Spirit released a Farewell Amy Butler bundle, I snapped it up without hesitation.  And now that my scrap jars are completely empty, I have loved cutting into them (and adding a few others) for this brand new pattern.  Clearly, I am not one to hoard my precious fabrics.  They energize my creativity and I love them in a quilt much more than I could ever appreciate them on a shelf.  What about you?  Are you a precious fabric hoarder, or do you love to cut and use them up?  What's your special designer/collection?

Last weekend was birthday weekend for my son and me, so I've been working a little less hurriedly on this quilt, but even so, the top is almost done.  The blocks are all finished and I just have to put them together and add the sashing.

Before we get to the party, check out some of my favorite projects from last week, and since I don't have any really pretty outdoor photos of my own project to share yet, I'm including extra eye-candy.  Something Rosemade shared this gorgeous finish-

This finished Trinket quilt is by Lori at Crossquilt.  I had the pleasure of seeing this one in person at our guild meeting Sunday!

I love this one by Michelle at From Bolt to Beauty-

Rebecca Grace at Cheeky Cognoscenti linked up this beautiful finish.  So lovely!

This striking quilt is by Nancy at Grace and Peace Quilting-

Celine at Espritpatch shared this amazing scrappy rainbow quilt.  You know I'm a sucker for a rainbow!

And finally, I looooove this soothing mini by Jayne at Twiggy and Opal.  It makes me want to drop everything and head to the beach!

Wow!  I think I could have easily added several more, but I know you're ready to party.  Let's link up!

1You can link finished projects or WIP's , but just keep it about quilting and sewing!
2. Link to your specific post (not to your home page!) to make it easier for others.
3. Please remember to spread the word and post my button or a text link.
4. Spread the comment love far and wide!
5. Following me is not a requirement to link, but is so very appreciated!

*If you're new to the party, here's a helpful tip for linking up- select "Auto Crop"  when selecting your thumbnail photo.  For some reason, trying to crop your own image results in the dreaded "white question mark box," and we definitely want to see your awesome work!  :)

  1. I had no idea there was a farewell Amy Butler bundle out there! I love the quilt you're making with it. Thanks for the shout out on my Simplify quilt! So many other pretty ones to look at, too!

  4. Thank you for the feature...you are too kind! My all time favorite designer is AMH, however I don't really get crazy anymore when a new line comes out. I have a couple special bundles I've yet to use, but sometimes you have to wait for just the right project to come along first.

  5. No fabric hoarder here. In fact, until recently my stash fit in one small drawer. When a local fabric store had a going out of business sale I stopped in 5 Saturdays in a row and purchased yard after yard which meant doing something different. I added 2 filing cabinets to hang my fabric in and a long ways to go to fill them. Right now I am enjoying how beautiful they look hanging there. Good luck on finding a a new fabric line you love as much. Oh, you can see my filing cabinets on my site.

  6. I have a scrap bundle of Amy Butler fabric, just one, and I can't let go of it. Every now and then I make one little thing from it, then hoard the rest. Haha. My other favorite designer is Victoria Findlay Wolfe. I have one particular fabric of hers, a bright orange floral, from her Mostly Manor line. I have 5 yards of it, and I am hoarding it, waiting for that perfect use!

  7. I'm a kind of fabric collector, no favorite designer, just buying colors and prints I love (which change according to mood!). Love your quilt, and the one featured too

  8. Thanks for the shoutout Kelly. I too am a fan of Amy Butler and her fabrics and made several quilts with it. One of the reasons why I started following your blog is because you come up with patterns using the fabrics as the focus and I remember the ones with Amy's fabric. I can bare to cut up large focus prints. BTW, I wrote a post about meeting Amy Butler and it's one of my favorite memories.

  9. I love your quilt design. I admit that after I read that your scrap bins were empty I missed everything else you wrote...haha I can't imagine! I keep working on mine but they keep creating more scraps!

  10. I like the blocks on your design wall. Can't wait to learn and see more. I do hoard some fabrics. But mostly because I can't figure out what to make LOL

  11. I thought of you when Amy announced that she would no longer be designing fabrics. You have made many lovely quilts with her lines and they mix together so well. I have a small collection of her fabrics but as you know I mainly hoard Kaffe. I'm trying hard to use up my stash this year and resist buying too much new. Right now it's mostly older florals and fruit/veggie prints that I'm using but I'd like to get to the Kaffes later and really bust into them. It's time.
