Precious fabrics. I know I'm not the only quilter that has them. Fabrics that are so prized that they are purchased and stashed away, just waiting for the perfect project. We ogle at their beauty and experience apprehension at the thought of cutting into them, sometimes for months or longer. Well friends, in the life of every cherished hoard there comes a time to end the cycle of fabric petting and turn those beauties into something even more gorgeous.
This, my friends, is my treasured Anna Maria Horner collection. True Colors, Mod Corsage, Fibs and Fables, Folk Song, and Loominous are all represented in their entirety, with a few prints from Honor Roll and LouLouThi thrown in for good measure. 125 different prints, totaling almost 35 yards of fabric (yikes!). Several months ago, I started collecting fabrics for a king sized quilt for my bed, and you could say that I got a little carried away. Quilty confession- when I photographed my stash a few weeks ago, these fabrics weren't included in my cabinet. I wasn't actually trying to hide them, but because I was collecting them for a specific project, they were already squirreled away in a special place.
Anyway, I'm finally ready for these precious fabrics to be pressed and cut, and sewn into something awesome!
Hiding fabrics in your stash from your stash ... you're so funny :) I completely understand the precious fabric thing. I have a whole bunch of bundles where it's no longer about saving for a special project ... I'm going to admit that I'll never cut into them, and they're there as display!
ReplyDeleteMy designer collection is Allison Glass - I have been collecting for several years now and have two projects that I plan to use them on - just need to put them in line - so many ideas and projects and so little time!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you make with these beautiful fabrics!
ReplyDeleteYep, I have a Someday Stash with my Tula Pink fabrics, I have a few bundles and then keeping adding new fat quarters. I'm hoping next year I'll finally make something....and your book will be out by then.
ReplyDeleteOh yah, that's me! Stashing away for this and that and terrified of "ruining" such beautiful fabrics! I'm thrilled to see that I'm not the only one that does that. You are stronger than me, I just can't do it to some of them...not yet anyway, maybe someday...soon. :)
ReplyDeleteThose colors are just luscious!
ReplyDeleteThese are pretty fabrics. They are going to make a great quilt!
ReplyDeleteYESSS. This picture is everything!
ReplyDeleteAhhh . . . Kelly. This post made me smile. Good for you being ready to use them. I tend to hoard Kaffe fabrics. I've had some of them for a long enough time that they're out of print which makes it becomes even harder to cut into them. I finally did use some this past week and couldn't be happier. But even so must admit that I'm sorry to see a couple of them get used up with only tiny bits left. I'm sure all those lovely AMH will be put to good use.
ReplyDeleteGreat fabrics, keep the scraps.
ReplyDeleteOh, I think we can all relate! What a lovely parade of fabrics! I can't wait to see what you make!
ReplyDeleteYes! I do the same thing! So pretty! I'm sure your quilt will be so lovely - and then you'll have great scrap projects! Fun!
ReplyDeletelooking forward to seeing what you do with all that beautiful fabric! Nancy A: rangerer@sbcglobal.net
ReplyDeleteGreat collection. Can't wait to see what you do with your precious.
ReplyDeleteI was collected blue fabrics to my Dear Jane blue and white quilt and then many of them ended in the quilt 365 sampler challenge and also I began again to buy blues to try finish my Dear Jane
Have fun with your new project!!
I am guilty too of keeping precious fabric for that one awesome project! Sometimes i am so good at hiding that I end up buying the same fabric twice! Yipes!!!
ReplyDeleteYour AMH stash is gorgeous! I've been hoarding Tula Pink since I started quilting. I have so much, I could probably make 10 quilts and still have leftovers. Other things I've been hoarding include Carolyn Friedlander, Denyse Schmidt's Chicopee line, and Kate Spain Christmas fabrics. However, I've been making quilts with all three of those this year, so I'm making some progress. Now if I could just start cutting into all that Tula Pink...
ReplyDeleteUse the good stuff! Plus, it's something for you. Enjoy the process.
ReplyDeleteWhat? No field study?! Still, this is a gorgeous range and I can't wait to see what you make. I am finishing up a king-sized quilt too with my own AMH stash!
ReplyDeleteI don't have any precious fabric as I rarely buy retail. When I do, it is to supplement a backing or border.
ReplyDeleteNow I do salivate over the big players in the fabric field - Tula Pink, Kaffe Fassett, Cotton & Steel.
Hoping for a Christmas gift card loaded with bucks so I can buy the Fabric That Must Not Be Cut.
