Classic Meets Modern

As the name of this post suggests, I've been working on a sampler quilt blending classic blocks with modern design.  Each block in this quilt is actually a traditional block in the public domain, but the block sizing and layout, as well as the fact that the quilt is made in solids, really gives it a modern twist.

I don't work exclusively with solids very often, but they really give a graphic feel to the blocks in this quilt.  I had a blast designing this top, and putting it together.  With so many different blocks and sizes, the entire process was so much fun!

I'm working on finishing this one up and writing the pattern.  Right now, I'm considering hosting this as a Block of the Month QAL next year, but that is still something I'm mulling over.

  1. Nice job! I'm not a big sampler fan, however I really like this one! If you do a BoM QAL next year, I would definitely be in. I've not done QALs until this year and I've done 3 this year and loved them! They kept me on track to get tops done and it's so fun seeing what others come up with.

  2. Oh yes, do it as a BOM QAL next year, Pleeeeaaaase? I love it a lot because it's not the standard sampler.

  3. That is incredibly beautiful! I love that all the blocks are different sizes and it's not a sampler with sashing and borders. I've never done a QAL before ... but this one might entice me after all!

  8. I hope you do host this as a QAL, that is seriously gorgeous! I am just finishing an asymmetrical quilt from a QAL with Pat Sloan called 182 Day Solstice. I'm making the patchwork "fillers". I like your geese and it's brilliant colors in solids!

  11. What fun! And an excellent choice of colors too. I've never done a QAL, but this would definitely tempt me if it was NEXT year. I've got too many irons in the fire now.
