I chose my good old standby for quilting in a light gray thread, and I'm happy that it helps to disguise my unfortunate mismatched plus seams a little bit. I used the same teal tonal chevron for the binding that I used as a border in the back, and I like how the chevrons point toward the quilt. That is totally a happy accident!
I placed my label a little too close to the edge on this one...whoops!
I can't decide which side of this quilt I like better! The back is so much fun with all of the improv piecing, but I think that the front has almost a 3D effect with the Carnaby Street jumping out against the gray background.
This is my second Carnaby Street quilt and I am not sick of the fabric at all. You can see my first one HERE. The colors in this quilt just make me happy (and kind of makes me want to watch Austin Powers)! I love the fun, groovy vibe. Which side do you like best?
Great finish! Love the versatility of this quilt! You can have it displayed from either side when you want. Love, love, love a pieced backing! Kudos!
ReplyDeleteBoth sides of your quilt are beautiful! Especially love the front; it is exquisite!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind comment and for your visit! I am so glad you like it!

Woo hoo! You have been making so many quilts lately and they all look fabulous. I especially like the color scheme in this one!
ReplyDeleteWhat could be better than dreaming of finishing your quilt - It's like waking up to Christmas morning! And it is quite dazzling, Kelly! That pattern is certainly a compliment to those Carnaby Street fabrics. I have to say that, although I do love a pieced backing - The front is my favourite side!
ReplyDeletePS. I was thinking more... That 70's Show!

I love the front and the back is pretty sweet too! An amazing amount of work for such a short time. It takes me FORever to finish something. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you...both sides are amazing. I think I prefer the front though, there is a bit of a 3D effect. And quilting is waaay more fun than laundry and packing. We leave tomorrow afternoon and I still haven't packed!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, the back is fun! The entire quilt is wonderful. Great job!
ReplyDeleteIt is gorgeous! What a fabulous finish!!! I really love the gray background. It give the colours so much POP!

ReplyDeleteAmanda
It really turned out beautiful!
ReplyDeleteQuilting is more fun than laundry and packing! I'm supposed to be doing both of those too, but no....quilting is calling my name! I love this quilt! It is a beautiful finish and I just adore the Carnaby St. fabric. I love both sides, but I do love both grays you used on the front to really make the Carnaby St. pop! Just gorgeous! Have fun on your trip! XO, :)
ReplyDeleteThis turned out great! I love both front and back!
ReplyDeleteLove the front! You're right - the fabrics do just jump out of the grey background! Fun!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun colors! Quilting is more fun than a lot of things, but especially laundry and packing (and cleaning...). I love both sides!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, this is yummy! Both sides are amazing! Such happy colors and the label is perfect!
ReplyDeleteBoth sides are great! I think I'm loving the back the most. What a bonus, a quilt that looks amazing on both sides. My eye was immediately drawn to that bright binding too. Nice finish :-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful I love the solids with the busy patterns on the X parts! The back is gorgeous too! Beautiful quilt!
ReplyDeleteAmazing! Love that pattern!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Sandy! I'm glad you like it.

ReplyDeleteThis is my favorite X plus quilt of all time!! It is incredible!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilt! I love the teal binding - it pull is altogether so beautifully. Love that it's pretty much double sided with pretty on both sides!
ReplyDeleteSuch a gorgeous quilt! The X and + blocks look fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI love the colors-- really groovy! And the label is perfect. I like the front more than the back because the grey colors on the front balance and complement the brighter ones:)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love it! I am really loving the gray background and the quilt colors are awesome! Thanks for linking up today:)
ReplyDeleteWow! This is really a reversible quilt! Both sides are gorgeous. The front is absolutely fantastic - the bright colors on the grey background, and the design ia great!

ReplyDeleteFabulous quilt!! Fun colors
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt!! I love the grey! The back is so cool. How did you make your label? I am not good at labeling my quilts. I need to find a fun easy way to do it and I love yours.
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is fabulous. I particularly love the back of it. Great work.
ReplyDeleteWow, both of your Carnaby Street quilts are awesome, I think this one is my fave! I have FQ bundle of this and just have not been inspired to use it yet, but you did a great job!
ReplyDeleteI am stopping by from the WIP hop, hop on by if you can http://domesticdeficitdisorder.blogspot.com/2013/07/wip-wednesday-july-3rd-edition.html
Love the improv back, the green chevron fabric and the pink circles fabrics, but the front is the cat's meow. LOVE it! You are a quilting dynamo! Congrats on an awesome finish and thank you for linking up!

Groovy Baby! And it's quilt gnomes right... do you keep them in your basement? Let them out to do the work, then put them back at the end of the day? Could i borrow some? ;) I love this one Kelly, it's just so fun!
ReplyDeleteOh Kelly, it's STUNNING!
ReplyDeleteA bit late to this!! It looks even better finished, back and front are both beautiful...love the wiggly quilting :)
ReplyDeleteWow! I really like this quilt but would never be able to do anything like that myself :-)

This is a gorgeous quilt, gorgeous fabric line. You did a fantastic job! Love. It.
ReplyDeleteThat is SO pretty!! Both sides are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt! I also really like your choice of colors!
ReplyDeleteLove love love it. I really love Carnaby Street fabric line!!
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous! Love the back! That label is great too... I'm curious how you did the writing. I can't tell if you wrote it in ink or thread. I always like to see the different ways people do their labels. Something I just learned at a quilting club I go to was that it is important to put where it was made on the label. They said when we are dead and gone it adds value and history. It made sense anyway, so I started doing that too. I enjoyed reading your post, thank you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful finish! I love the back and that label is just wonderful.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is super! I love grey as a background, it's such a serene background. I, too, like using grey for quilting; it is so versatile and just blends in with whatever color is on your quilt. Congratulations on a terrific quilt!
ReplyDeletePretty, pretty, pretty, Kelly! Love the front AND the back! Whoop whoop!!
ReplyDeletevisiting from July finishes at such a sew and sew. I love the cross side. The colours on the whole quilt are fantastic
ReplyDeleteFabulous quilt!! And I LOVE LOVE LOVE your label. Do you mind telling me how you did it? Is that a sharpie markie like it looks? And the pieced mat for the label just plain rocks!
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely quilt! Both sides are great, but the front is my favorite. Can't wait to see what you make next.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt Kelly, it just sparkles!! I can't decide whether I like the front or the back the best and your label is perfect!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.

This is GORGEOUS Kelly! I want to feature it and you at Quilt Story. Let me know if that's okay! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful quilt...
ReplyDeleteThe back is incredible! It is taking me so long to piece the front of mine (eight...blocks...left) that I snapped up a big cut of some grey Cameo (the one with the people and the trees) on sale at FQS to make a plain back for mine. You know, if I ever get the top done and am ready to quilt it. ;) What an incredible finish, Kelly. You chose just the right pattern to highlight your precious scraps. I hope you are keeping and enjoying your finished product.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic 2-for-1 quilt! I love the dimensionality of the front - looks like a pretty trellis, almost. My favorite X and + that I've ever seen. :) And the meandering is PERFECT for its quilting.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE love love this! Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteMy jaw literally dropped when I saw the front of your quilt. And then again when I saw the back. It's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I'm so glad you like it. It was a really fun quilt to work on- I think because I love the Carnaby Street fabric so much. Thanks for visiting!
