Of course all of the scraps went into the backing, and I found this really awesome sketch print for the binding. It's two shades of brown and I think it's really cool!
This one is for my wild thing's teacher, and of course, I just couldn't help myself- I took it to school today to show her. They are right next door to my classroom, so I just couldn't resist! She really loved it, and I am so glad! I have a quilt guild meeting this weekend, and I want to take it for show and tell, but I'm sure she'll be snuggling with it pretty soon after!
With spring in the air, I decided to call this one Robin's Nest. The calm blue with the earthy brown is such a pretty color combo in nature and in a quilt (photo courtesy of bodmindspirit.blogspot.com).
By the way, I always quilt through my labels, and I have people who are using my label tutorial ask me from time to time whether it obstructs the view of the message. Even though I have used brown thread and the label is on Kona White, I can honestly say that it doesn't make the writing illegible to me. This label is about 3x3 inches including the borders, and the quilting doesn't bother me. Perhaps if the quilting was much tighter it would.
My next bit of news is such an honor for me. You might remember that last year I made four different memory quilts from my grandfather's western shirts. He had Alzheimer's and passed away in December. The quilts are a keepsake for my dad and his three brothers. Well, the current issue of Quilt-It Today has an article on memory quilts, and they contacted me to include one of my quilts! I put it on my (left) sidebar some time ago, but the issue just went on sale last week. My Dad's Western Kaleidoscope quilt is on page 26! It is so cool to walk into JoAnn's and see them on the rack!
Whew! I feel like talked your ear off today! Let's get onto some highlights from last weeks party!
Elise at Lovelea Designs shared this gorgeous medallion quilt.
Julie's Quilts and Costumes linked up this patriotic beauty!
and Quilting is More Fun Than Housework showed off this scrappy, happy quilt!
Can't wait to party it up this week! Bring it on, ya'll!

Perfect title for your quilt Kelly! Love the colors. And thanks for featuring my scrap quilt!
ReplyDeleteI love your "Robin's Nest" quilt. Your kid's teacher is super lucky! I also love the contrast of the brown thread for the quilting. It totally adds to the beauty of the quilt.

Congratulations on being in the magazine! How fun is that? Robin's Nest is beautiful. Your son's teacher will enjoy it for years, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! The call from the magazine must have made your day. It would make mine!
ReplyDeleteI really like the backing of your quilt. I like the top too, but the back just draws my eyes. I don't know if it's the prints, the colors, the rectangles or the quilting... I find it simply gorgeous!
How fun to have an item in this magazine - congrats! I have an idea: you should have a giveaway so one lucky reader (me) could win a copy! You can always ask me for suggestions 'cuz I'm just full of good ideas like that. :)
ReplyDeleteLots of wonderful quilt photos, Kelly. and so many link ups to explore on this stormy rain-filled day.
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt you made for your dad. Congratulations on being published in a magazine! Best, Kate
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the quilt being published! Love your Robin's Nest quilt too. Quick and easy, but so pretty.
ReplyDeleteLove your Two Four Six quilt! Did you cut the bigger pieces as one square originally, and then slice and insert the two inch pieces?

Congratulations Kelly on your magazine feature. That is wonderful news! Your quilt is beautiful and I am sure it will be very well received. Loving the feature quilts too! Thank you so much for hosting the linky party. Have a great weekend. Marie (mlismore@optusnet.com.au)
ReplyDeleteI love your brown and teal quilt 'Robins Nest' quilt. I recognize some of those fabrics - I have them in my stash too. Love the combination and the design. Great job.
ReplyDeleteLove the name of the quilt -- totally inspired. I think of my home as Robin's Nest Cottage since there is always a robin's nest somewhere in the yard! And while you didn't need the public recognition for making those special quilts I'm pleased that you go it!
ReplyDeletelove the blue and brown quilt, it really is awesome!!! And your memory quilts inspired me to offer to do something similar for a friend who suddenly lost her husband. I'm making a quilt for her and her two daughters and for the baby she is expecting. I'm not sure they will be as wonderful as yours, but for her they will mean the world.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! That's awesome news and nice finish!
ReplyDeleteI love this colour combination!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being in the magazine. I hadn't seen your quilts - they are really wonderful!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the quilt in the magazine! And I am still in love with Robin's Nest!!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great quilt! And I think you went with the right choice on thread color. I think that a light thread on the darker fabric would have been distracting. Beautifully done and thanks for linking up!
