Farm Picnic and NTT

Happy Needle and Thread Thursday, friends!  This weekend, after a slight postponement from hurricane Delta, we went down to Louisiana to visit my family for a long fall break weekend, but not before I finished off this cute quilt for a baby boy. 

These colors are so fresh and fun and the white background makes the farm-inspired palette even more vibrant.  I've decided to call this one Farm Picnic, and it will look right at home in the farm-themed nursery.

I quilted this one with a relaxed stipple to keep it nice and cuddly (and also because it's nice and relaxing for me!).

For the back, I used this great print that has shades of blue, white, and gray, and widened it out with a chunk of one of the green prints I used.  I didn't think about it at the time, but if the quilt is turned, it would look like a green field meeting a perfect blue sky.  Very fitting for a farm!  I finished it off with a tonal gray striped binding, and it adds just the right touch of subtle interest.  

The finished baby quilt measures 48" square, and even though the Waverunner pattern is only written for lap, twin, and queen sizes, it was super easy to modify for a baby quilt.  In fact, if you have the pattern and need help, just send me an email and I'll be happy to assist.

For a Baby Boy and NTT

 Happy Needle and Thread Thursday, y'all.  After submitting my manuscript last week I took a couple of days off to recoup, but lately, I've been working on a quilt for a baby boy.

I decided to make this quilt with my Waverunner pattern, and I love how it looks in a different colorway.  It's always fun to see different interpretations of a single pattern.  You can find the Waverunner pattern HERE!  This pattern is nice and simple to sew, but still has plenty of visual impact.

The nursery is decorated with a barnyard/farm theme with these colors, and it's looking cute so far.  I don't typically include novelty fabrics in my quilt, and I think that helps the quilt grow with the child long past the time the theme is changed.  Even without farm themed fabrics, this quilt will still match the nursery just perfectly!

That's a Wrap and NTT

 Happy Needle and Thread Thursday, friends.  I had my nose to the grindstone all week and officially submitted my manuscript and quilts to my publisher this afternoon!  It feels amazing to have that huge weight lifted (and it will feel even better when my quilts actually arrive at their destination).  There will be smaller deadlines I'll need to meet over the course of the next several months, but compared to this hurdle they're no big deal- and they won't come until after the holidays, which is a good thing considering how many other things like to take up residence in my brain this time of year.

Last Pattern Holdouts and NTT

Happy Needle and Thread Thursday, y'all!  This week has been spent at the computer rather than the sewing machine.  I'm entering the home stretch of preparing my manuscript to be sent off to my publisher, which is happening within the next couple of weeks.  I also took a few days to add cover photos to the final two patterns that I've been sitting on for awhile.  The first one is my Rock Candy pattern-

I finished this quilt and pattern last summer and right after they were complete, my world went a little sideways.  My mother-in-law passed away, we got a new puppy, and then we moved to a new house, all in succession.  Getting the pattern released was shoved to the back burner for awhile, but I am so glad that it is finally ready for you!  The graceful geometric pattern is simple yet striking, and though it has a great curvy illusion, it is achieved with all basic, straight piecing.

The second release for today (and for awhile) is the Veranda pattern, which is a much more recent quilt finish.

Though the quilt was finished just a couple of weeks ago, the pattern was actually designed and partially written over two years ago, and I'm glad it's not hidden away any longer.  This pattern has an elegant feel, and I think it's perfect for larger-scale prints.  The interlocking tile and flower shapes are really unique, and though this one looks tough, it really isn't.  This one just requires basic, straight piecing techniques as well.

Each pattern is written for lap, twin, and queen sizes, and as with all of my patterns full-color illustrations and detailed instructions are provided for each step.  Cutting diagrams are included as well.  You can find these two patterns in my Etsy shop HERE, and I hope you'll take a look!

Two New Pattern Releases and NTT

 Happy Needle and Thread Thursday, friends!  This week, I have finally gotten two (long overdue) patterns ready for release.  They were all finished and just waiting for cover photography!  First is my Pocket Full of Posies pattern, which uses fat quarters with very little waste.  I originally made this quilt and finished the pattern this spring, and this sweet pattern is lots of fun to put together.    

My second pattern release is Moroccan Star.  Though I just finished the quilt a few weeks ago, I actually wrote the pattern for this one in April 2019.  Yikes!  It was definitely time to make this quilt and get the pattern out into the world.

Veranda and NTT

Happy Needle and Thursday, y'all!  It has been a super busy week around here.  My father-in-law got all moved into his new house, and we are so happy to have him just 15 minutes away.  Considering that he was previously almost 600 miles from us, that is quite an improvement.  We've been over there helping him unpack and get settled, but during the time I've been home, I was able to baste, quilt, and bind my latest quilt.  And here she is!

I'm naming this quilt Veranda, and yes!  I will be releasing a pattern for it.  I need to buckle down and finish up several patterns that are basically complete and just missing cover graphics, but I can't help but choose my sewing machine over my computer most days.  I'm planning some serious computer time to get those done this week.

I quilted Veranda with an allover paisley motif, which looks like scattered flower petals to me.  I think it fits the floral fabrics so nicely and adds plenty of amazing texture.

Since I used many more prints than I really needed in this quilt, I had lots of leftovers, and I put them to great use on the back of the quilt.  I used Kona Pond from my stash to finish off the backing, and I love the way the quilting shows up against it.

I opted to use even more leftovers to create a scrappy binding.  Scrappy bindings are the way to go if you want the binding to blend right into the quilt without creating an obvious frame around it.  Plus, using more scraps for the binding also means that I had only a few pieces of fabric to add to my scrap jars.  Yay!

Waiting For the Right Fabrics and NTT

Happy Needle and Thread Thursday, friends!  I have a brand new quilt top to share with you today, and I am so very excited about it.  I designed this pattern over two years ago and at the time, I had a very specific feel in mind for this quilt.  I really wanted the fabrics to have a certain vibe, and I couldn't immediately find a collection that felt right.  So, the pattern stayed in my design folder where I kind of forgot about it for awhile.

When I saw the 365 Fifth Avenue collection by Bari J, I started thinking about a quilt pattern for them, and when I stumbled across this one in my design folder, I knew right away it would be a perfect marriage of fabric and pattern.  Now that the quilt top is all put together, it's clear that it was totally worth the two year wait.

This is move-in week for my father-in-law, so helping him get all settled will be my priority for the next week, but I'm going to get this quilt finished as soon as I can.  After two years, what's another week, right?
